Cholmondeley and Chorley Parish Council: Roles and Responsibilities

Cholmondeley and Chorley Parish Council serves as the first tier of local government, representing the interests of our community and addressing issues that matter to residents. Whilst the council does not own or manage land, allotments, or other physical assets, it plays an important role in supporting the local area through consultation, representation, and community engagement.

What We Do:

As a small parish council, our responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with residents: Representing local views and advocating for the needs of the community.
  • Liaising with other authorities: Working closely with Cheshire East Council and other bodies to address local concerns.
  • Providing feedback on planning applications: Offering a voice in the planning process to reflect community perspectives.
  • Supporting community initiatives: Facilitating projects or events that promote the wellbeing of our parish.
  • Ensuring transparency and governance: Adhering to legal and ethical standards through regular meetings and documentation.

What We Are Not Responsible For:

Cholmondeley and Chorley Parish Council does not manage infrastructure or services typically handled by Cheshire East Council, such as:

  • Road repairs and maintenance
  • Street lighting and road signage
  • Waste collection and recycling
  • Social care and education services
  • Public transport services
